Is Outsourcing Bad for the Economy? Are We Irresponsible For Encouraging It?

02 Jul 2009 Jay (Jason Van Orden) 31 Comments

biz-globeA few days ago we received an email chastising us for encouraging the use of offshore outsourcing. I spent a couple hours exchanging emails with the sender where we shared our differing opinions.

As a result, it struck me that Sterling and I hadn’t fully shared our our views on what could be an emotionally charged issue given the current economic climate (not only in the U.S. but in many places around the world.) This is a long post, but it is one that is important to consider.

In the interest of discussion, I’ve included the email here (with the sender’s name omitted) followed by our views.

“That was the best interview you’ve had in the Academy yet.”
That’s what my  friend and Internet Business Mastery
Academy member, Brett, said to me right after we
released the interview with Jeff Johnson earlier this year.

And it’s no wonder. Jeff turns out amazing ideas about how to
generate traffic with WordPress. And now he’s done it again.

When Sterling and Jay Get Together, Watch Out!

22 May 2009 Jay (Jason Van Orden) 7 Comments

img_2009I’m just barely recovering from a my crazy week in San Diego. Apparently it was just too much beach, surf and sun for one guy to handle, ’cause the moment I got back…I got sick. But now I’m back on my feet and ready to share a peek at what transpired last week when Sterling and I got together in his stomping grounds.

At least a couple times a year we’ll fly one or the other of us out  to brainstorm big ideas and basically show the other guy why our lifestyle is cooler than his. And this time it was no exception.

Our heads are still spinning from thinking so much (either that or from eating at Sizzler — uh, don’t ask. Just search Twitter if you really need to know.) We spent four days straight eating out and asking the question: “How can we take Internet Business Mastery to the next level for both the members and ourselves?”

Three Must-Read Books for Entrepreneurs

30 Apr 2009 Jay (Jason Van Orden) 11 Comments

Sterling and I read all the time. There isn’t a moment that we don’t have at least two books that we are in the middle of reading. As you can imagine, a number of these books are business-related.

We’ve talked about some of our favorite books in the past on the podcast. Whenever we find a book that has a huge impact on our lives and businesses, we immediately want to share it with the Internet Business Mastery community.

Hunting For Internet Success

BowCastIf you think Internet Business is all about selling info products, think again.

One of our long-time listeners is a guy named Aneal Roney. One of the things we like best about Aneal is how he takes the proven marketing lessons we teach and implements them in his own unique way.

His web site is BowCast — the home of his archery-focused podcast.

So how does he make money from his site? Listen to this message he sent us and he’ll reveal the very innovative way he makes it work for him.

A week after he sent us that message Aneal emailed us again with an update.

You can update the testimonial I left on your voice mail! -  I went to another trade show and closed another $20K of business by selling to companies who want to market through my site!  Thanks for all of your help!

Then recently I checked in with him again to inquire about his most recent progress. His reply?

Over the last year we have grown our podcast listeners and unique site visitors by over 600%!  We have also more than doubled the “sponsorship” revenue we have collected for marketing and advertising – we will bring in roughly $60,000 in 2009!

Visit Aneal’s site here.

Aneal was a coaching student back in February of ‘08.
