With a New Year Comes a New Blog

What’s this? A text blog post? I thought this was a podcast!

Well…things are changing around here. Internet Business Mastery is now a podcast and a blog (and a whole lot more but that is for another blog post).

Yes, you can still look forward to the same doses of audio entrepreneurship through the podcast feed, but we decided that we’re just teeming with too many ideas and need a way to get more of it out to you. By blogging on this site we can communicate with you on a more frequent basis. January 1st seemed as good a time as any to get things started.

There will be two separate feeds, one for the podcast and one for the blog. We’re still working on separating out the two feeds. We’ll post the blog feed address as soon as it’s ready. The podcast feed address will remain:

http://www.internet-based-business-mastery.com/feed/

Speaking of the podcast, we had another episodes all recorded (the one on building your email list) and then we realized that we had some audio glitches in there and it needed to be redone. Then the holidays hit. As soon as we can redo the recording, we’ll release the episode.

Watch for a site redesign and other new features soon. Stay tuned.

I would say long time listener, first time caller, but this isn’t quite a radio program. Which works well for me since I don’t listen to the radio. Love your show it has kept me inspired to do what I have always wanted……… start a company (www.dogadoptionguide.com).

Now for the questions….

I have created an ebook, posted it on ClickBank (official launch was Sunday night). Using Google AdWords for traffic (while building some content for organic searches). Google Analytics are killer, I can tell where people are coming from, CPC for keywords, yada yada…… I am getting decent traffic for my first week. I can tell what is bringing ppl in but since I can’t add code to the ClickBank interface I don’t know where I am looking ppl. Non internet marketing friends say they don’t like/trust the Clickbank site.

1) If I used Google I could track where I lose people thru the whole process, and Google is a very recognized name.
***Do you have any experience with it? Do you recommend it?

Your words of wisdom have saved me alot of time and kept me going even when is it 1:36 in the morning.

Keep up all of the great work guys!. I will be listening.

P.S. (Jay I even found your GothamCast! sorry to see it go)

Jason,

I don’t have any experience yet with Google checkout. Soon we will have a way to tap the collective wisdom of the Internet Business Mastery community to get feedback on it. For now, I can’t direct you either way.

As for GothamCast, it may yet return for another “season”. Stay tuned.

Hi Jay and Sterling,

Firstly I’d like to thank you for your inspirational podcast. The tools you selflessly provide and confidence that you exude has helped me immensely in my own life and both personal and business, to the point where this year I have given up my daytime job to work full-time on what I love.

I have a quick question regarding a past podcast. I am about to launch a new site and I remember you mentioned the use of hyphenated domains for SEO.

My question is : Do you have any issues with duplicate content within search engines or is this set up in a way that a search engine will only ever see the hyphenated site, whilst listeners like myself can simply type in internetbusinessmastery.com? Do you think that there are any disadvantages to the method you use?

Looking forward to the next episode,
Jared in Korea

Jared,

That’s a great question. There are no issues with duplicate content. We use a type of redirect that tells the search engines that the permanent location of the content is the site being forwarded to (the hyphenated URL). As far as the search engine is concerned, the content only exists in one place. I haven’t discovered any downsides to using this method yet.

Thanks for a great show I have been listening for about 8 months now. Even though I am pretty advanced with internet marketing I find your show helpful. It is also great to hear about people living the same lifestyle as me.

One thing I would recommend is easier access to your recommended products. I am always away from my computer when listening to a podcast, at the gymn or wherever and forget the link. When I visit this site I cannot find a link to your affiliate links. Could you put a category of recommended products with a link to your pages. eg your recommended email list etc.

Actually what brought me here today was your mention about time management a couple of weeks back. Can you send me the link to the book your recommend?

Many Thanks

Mark,

We have definitely been remiss in not putting the link to the tools and recommended resources on the front page. I’ll add it now. We’re currently going through a site redesign and have a lot of things we’d like to add.

The time management book that I mentioned on the show is Getting Things Done. It’s a must read.

Hey Jay and Sterling, you guys rock. I have been gleaning many pearls
adding to my bag of tools, and just enjoying your steady intelligent,
entertaining voices. Just left you a voice mail and thought I’d send this
along.

My issue today is JeffsList.net. I started gathering content for this site
in ‘94 with the first e-mail joke I received. I’m a collector and gathered
what I consider the best of the net funnies, some commentary, random
thoughts, pop culture, strange stuff & some snap shots too.

I designed and posted the site in ‘05 to catalog this content in an
attractive, functional way, a Net Library of laughs, a sort of p2p user
driven model. So here I am, this is some good, funny and thoughtful stuff,
gathered for all to enjoy, that no one is seeing!

I have tried to design the site to be easy, no registration required to see
full content and anonymous posting option, all free. . . All good, but… I
need some page rank, traffic & advertisers!!!! My business model is based
on advertising but the banner ads sowing now are for my other business and
some friends. I have considered creating a shopping directory based on
affiliate links, develop some aspect of social networking on the site (post
comments, blog, contact a poster type ideas) which will come, for now I need
traffic, buzz, happy visitors, advertisers. Any ideas? Feel free to use
the site as a teaching example and don’t be shy with constructive criticism,
I just want to share some laughs, a lil serious stuff and get my
info-preneur business going. Hope you get a laugh from the site and thanks
again for the support and great programing.

Cheers!

Jeff,

Unfortunately we don’t have the time to do site critiques right now. But I took a quick look. If you search in Google to see how many inbound links you have, there are zero (as of the writing of this comment). If you want page rank and search engine traffic, then you need to get links back to your site. The best think you can do now is to build links to your site.

Best of luck.

Hey Jay, thanks for taking a look, I know you guys are busy, I’m going back through your podcasts and making a plan of attack. FYI there are at least 10 inbound links I know of, why did they not show up for you I wonder? Thanks again for the infotainment!

Hi Jeff,

Google does not show all your backlinks, just a selection of them. This is so people cannot just go and copy the links linking to a high ranking site.

Mark

We do have a resource page at:

http://www.internet-based-business-mastery.com/tools/

We do need to add a recommended reading list to it as well… Coming soon!

Sterling
