Hey guys, can you please explain on a future podcast how Google Docs are so useful for outsourcing work at places like elance and oDesk? I know you mentioned it was the best thing to use but i didnt quite understand completely. Thanks
You guys are awesome! A friend of mine told me about using podcasts with my new Iphone…so I plugged into ITunes. By chance, I came across your Podcast and subscribed to it.
Now, typically I listen to music when I drive or work. For the past 2 days I have only listened to your Podcasts via my earbuds and Iphone (shhh, don’t let the police know).
What a great concept you have and already I am getting a great understanding of what and why you do what you do. I am becoming a loyal listener and I trust what you do.
Hey Guys, another great podcast. Great idea with the book of the month, its another great idea for building a stonger community of “Raving fans”. Thanks for the tip about 43things.com I checked it out right after the podcast. I got some good insight into what people are thinking about. Keep up the good work!!
Guys - I think early on you said you used series LLC’s. Do you spin off a new sub series (baby) LLC whenever you build or acquire a new site/business and put that site/business in the new baby?
thanks!!
New fan here. Working out my strategy to develop an information product online. This episode was great and it made me think about something that I have not heard covered in your Podcasts.
How did you (does one) create a “business/marketing plan” for an online blogging/information business?
Did you guys set out a strategy and plan before you began? How can you guesstimate your sales so you can manage your upfront expenses?
I love to hear a podcast devoted to planning and strategy. Kind of a how to on brainstorming your potential profits.
Welcome to the podcast. Thanks for listening. I’d be a hypocrite to pretend that I haven’t driven to work with earbuds in to listen to informative content.
@Jeff,
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Community Magnet. I really enjoyed making it. The response has been really good, so I’m thinking about extending that brand out and doing more with it.
@Brett,
You don’t necessarily need a new LLC for every little idea. In fact, that would become inefficient. You have to consider if there are reasons for you to separate the money, assets and liability of one business idea from another. Right now, I have only two LLCs: my own and IBM which I own with Sterling.
@Joseph,
How to chose the viability of a niche is a common question. We do have some tools and things we use for analysis when needed, but the more I do internet business, the more I realize that the most important things are:
1. Your own “gut feel”
2. Confidence in yourself
3. Fast and bold action
4. Getting something out to see how the market responds
Longtime listener first time commenter. I love your podcast. Your podcast inspired me to start my blog and I am creating information content that will be sold on the site. As well, you were one of my first and only additions to the blog roll. I have received more great tips from you two than any other source.
Maybe you could do a show about the great guys who create the awesome Wordpress themes. I know you guys probably have a guy doing web design but for guys like me we benefit by using a theme like Cutline from the php magician Chris Pearson (who is a friend of Copyblogger. As you know certain themes for Wordpress are more user friendly than others and some are updated more than others.
Hey guys! Another great podcast. I want to let you know that I went on craigslist and found a really good programmer for my new project. I did some hard interviews because a lot of these freelance guys are very casual(understatement) with timelines and business etiquette.
I do want to recommend an author that I think is basically the godfather for all of these great books made by people like Brian Tracy, Dan Kennedy, Tony Robbins etc….
His name is Napoleon Hill. He did over 20 years of research to come up with the 17 principles that these guys use today. There really aren’t too many people who come up with what Napoleon Hill states in his “Think and Grow Rich” and “Keys to Success” books. It’s very important for people who plan to become successful in something to not only pursue it but to have the mindset to do it. The road is long and hard and if your mind hasn’t been trained consciously and subconciously to move incremently forward you’ll fail through submission.
So, the Dan Kennedy book and the others are great. But, I just want to give props to the godfather of them all. Napoleon Hill.
BTW, Made to Stick is really good so far. I’m half way through. Thanks for the recommendation.

What People Are Saying
I don’t think you guys even realize how positive of an impact you have on countless numbers of people, what both of you have done to better many peoples lives and the world around you is truly commendable. — Marc M. LifeAfterEbay.com
“I’ve been following your stuff for a while now and have largely improved what I have in my current day job — a full-time MD. Since I started thinking and applying stuff from your show. My annual gross has since gone up from about $130k to $216k.” — Peter B., M.D.
