I really enjoyed this episode; it reminded me of a quote that I keep in my wallet.
“If you want to do something easy go sit on the coach,” Yogi Berra.
Anyways, this is my first post on the website. I would like to say your guys are amazing! I have been tracking you two, and listening to the podcasts for past year. This medium has been a great resource for me.
After a year of planning and months of development my team launched a community based website and a personal blog. I have been able to apply the knowledge I gained here, and successful guide conceptual ideas into functional processes. Like your said in the podcast it’s exhilarating to see others enjoy your work.
Haha, good talk about why many fail. In my opinion, I think it just goes back to being able to learn how to do all the technical stuffs like building a website, list-building, web-hosting, ftp, php, html… learning the basic of those stuffs. Even if you tell a newbie to read all these concepts on marketing, and just tell them ‘oh, you should build a opt-in list on this niche and sell from there or start a adsense blog and drive traffic from there and so on…’
They probably don’t know where to start or even how. From there on, they just get more confused and just kept on reading, and getting more confused, the cycle just continues and after awhile… information overload!
I know, because I use to do the samething…!
Also, I don’t really believe “motivation” is the right way to go, because it can like inspiration, it’s only temporary. You should be “driving” yourself to building your own online business.
I agree, it’s the discontentment that pushes one to act. My last day job paid very well so it took me quite a while to decide to take the big jump. I was very content with the money and slave lifestyle I had created. I had to get the mindset set before I realized that the safety was all an illusion.
@Ben,
Thanks!
@Curt,
Unfortunately I’m moving out of Salt Lake in 2 days! There are several members of the Internet Business Mastery Academy that meet in SLC from time to time.
@Matt,
Yeah, it is very fulfilling to hear and see your work inspiring and changing others lives. I live for it.
@Gewdton,
Actually, after years of doing this and years of teaching this, both Jay and I realized it is the mindset that actually brings success. The nuts and bolts are relatively easy. 1,000 people try to teach the nuts and bolts, but without the correct mindset you will not have what it takes to succeed.
You have to have motivation to begin the journey. Something motivates you to do everything you do. If you are trying to learn to do an internet business, something is motivating you to do it or you would not. Once you learn to control your own motivation you can do anything, when you want to.
Many people want to skip the mindset and they pay for it later when their drive peters out after a month or so because they don’t really know why they are doing what they are doing. They think it is simply for the money. The desire for money only goes so far. I kept having problems with my motivation when all I had was a desire for the money. Once I got my mindset together and realized what actually fulfilled my businesses exploded! Trust me, without the mindset and control of the motivation the nuts and bolts mean nothing.

I don’t think you guys even realize how positive of an impact you have on countless numbers of people, what both of you have done to better many peoples lives and the world around you is truly commendable. — Marc M. LifeAfterEbay.com
“I’ve been following your stuff for a while now and have largely improved what I have in my current day job — a full-time MD. Since I started thinking and applying stuff from your show. My annual gross has since gone up from about $130k to $216k.” — Peter B., M.D.
