Do You Hate Your Job?…

…Drew Carey sympathizes:

Oh, you hate your job? Why didn’t you say so? There’s a support group for that. It’s called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.

I found this quote while reading Success from the Nest - Finding Passion Amid the Hate, a blog post about what to do if you hate your job. Of course, my answer is: “Listen to Internet Business Mastery”. ;)

Hi Jay - Thanks for the mention. Good advice - I’ll be listening ;)

-General Information: Sterling & Jay, I first want to thank you for all your efforts, time, patience and tremendous amount of insight into the internet marketing world. I have found your podcasts to be EXTREMELY enlightening and more importantly, motivating and inspiring. I have listened to the entire podcast series once and am currently on my 2nd go round. I’ve been taking notes of all the information provided, and find I have a few questions on several topics as I’ve been going along. To provide a bit of formatting to my questions, I’ve put them into Word in hopes that it makes for easier reading to minimize the impact on your time.

-Business Structure: I was introduced to your podcasts through a friend, and we both have begun to dive into Information Marketing with your podcast teachings in mind. We realize that getting the business structured is important, and an LLC seems to be the way to go. However, is the Information Marketing business a place for 2 people to work together? We’ve discussed it, but it seems that since the business can be so focused, maybe we should just work independently, but help each other along the way. Your thoughts?

Your 2 part podcast with the Texas attorney was incredibly informative and a needed eye-opener. Maybe this is a question for him, but to be properly informed about getting into an LLC, do I need to purchase his kit? I would like to buy it but it seems like a lot of material to review, process and use to get into an LLC. I REALLY want to structure my business as early as possible to provide this whole infopreneur experience some legitimacy for myself, but also do not want the LLC creation to hold me up longer than necessary. Do I need his kit to get started, or is there a simpler route for an upstart like me. Also, I’m curious as to whether or not it is ok to physically live & operate the business from one state, but create/register the LLC in a different state?

-Affiliates Marketing & Licensed Products: Since we’re newbies, we thought that going the route I believe Sterling went in selling licensed products. Is this a good strategy or is it better to begin picking out niches and creating products on our own? If selling licensed products is a good option, do you have any suggestions as to vendors that are looking for licensees, or where we could find them?

During some of your podcasts, you mentioned affiliate link sales. In your estimation, how much time/energy/money should be put into creating and marketing affiliate sites? Based on your podcasts, affiliate sites should be secondary income streams to my own information products, but wanted your insight.

-Niches/Writers/Contributors: I’ve realized I know people that can provide content as bloggers as well as information products for various niches, but was curious as to how I pay them. I recall you had a podcast about eLance and freelance.com. But for writers that are very regular contributors, can they be retained as contractors? I would really like to avoid having any employees if I could and would like to know what options you might be aware of. If contracting is an option, how/where could I find information on the “language” that should be in contracts specific to Information Marketing.

Website Construction/Design: I could spend a lot of keystrokes here, but I’ll keep it short since I might answer some of my own questions along the way. I’ve heard on the podcasts that Dreamweaver is the weapon of choice and I don’t have a problem with that. However in researching information product websites, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a somewhat standard format: entire page is narrow and centered on the page (I’m assuming to ensure the site fits in at 800×600 resolution), the page is very vertically long and contains bright colors, highlighted text, customer testimonials in different colored text boxes, etc. Am I correct in assuming this is the successful marketing model to start with?

Halbert,

That’s a lot of good questions. Unfortunately we don’t have the time to answer all of them. But let me answer the first couple.

Information marketing can certainly be done as a partnership. It’s like any partnership. You take a look to see if you complement each other and can produce a bigger pie together than alone. Sterling and I have an information marketing partnership together. If you plan to start a multi-member LLC (partnership) then I definitely suggest getting Darius’ LLC course. He covers lots of important details about protecting an LLC that has multiple managers/members.

Sterling and Jay,

I just recently discovered your wonderful podcast series and wanted to take a minute to thank you for the valuable information your putting out. I’m desperately trying to catch up with you and listen to the podcasts at every opportunity. Currently I’m on episode 10.

I’m a retired Navy man with a handicapped wife. I’ve been looking for some kind of business to do from home so that I can care for my wife when needed. The type of internet businesses you talk about really fits the bill. Now all I have to do is suck up all the information I can and get things rolling.

Here’s some information for you and your listeners. In episode 8, you spoke of creating PDF files. A good free source for creating PDF files is to download the free OpenOffice suite (www.openoffice.org). OpenOffice is not only a dynamite office productivity suite, but it also lets you create PDF files from within the program. This might be old news to you by now, but I thought I would offer it up to you.

Again, thank you for the outstanding podcast series.

Wes
