So Why Bother Using Buzz Marketing Techniques?
I can answer this in just three simple words: Links, Traffic, Branding.
Feel free to add “Money” to that list as well. But please use the term “Long term money”
Every webmaster ultimately wants traffic. It is the lifeblood of any website. Yet not all of us have budgets that allow us to spend thousands on PPC, ad deals etc… Buzz Marketing is a free technique, and one that can drive more traffic than even the largest of ad campaigns.
Buzz Marketing is a principle, so it can be applied to articles, images, podcasts, videos, newsletters, sales pages…
Proof
Many people like to talk about viral/buzz marketing, but only a tiny % of those so called “experts” have actually achieved anything with it
The above image shows a small sample of some of the traffic I was getting from one of my buzz marketing successes. The cool thing here is that I was on numerous major sites at the same time:
• Digg.com
• Slashdot.org
• Reddit.com
• Popurls.com
What difference would it make to your website or business if you were featured on the main pages of all of those sites today?
This image still sends a shiver down my spine. The 9th December 2006 was my first of many buzz marketing successes, and it is a day that changed my life forever.
On the 8th December, you can see that I had 209 visits. This clearly shows that my blog was fairly new at the time, had a small niche following, and had no money spent on promotion. On the 9th December, the buzz marketing article went global, and my site has been a powerful, high traffic site ever since.
What is most amazing is the fact that my server simply couldn’t cope with the amount of traffic. So for hours at a time it went offline. Imagine how the above stats would look if I hadn’t lost all that traffic.
The purpose of this post was to show you a behind the scenes look at just how powerful buzz marketing can be. It literally changed my life, and I genuinely believe it can do the same for ANY website owner.
In part two, I am going to show you EXACTLY how I took a random article and turned it into a global success overnight.

Without a doubt, buzz marketing is one of the most powerful methods of promoting a site or product. The only problem is… how to make it go viral? Unfortunately, there is no formula for this.
